Reflection: Valentine’s Day Event
By Gina Lee, 2013 Reveal Volunteer
February 16, 2013 - the day of the Valentine’s Makeover event for Reveal. This was my first time volunteering for the event. I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as I stepped into the loft space. It was transforming before my eyes from an empty white room to a makeshift salon, dressing room, and cafe.
The morning of the event - prior to our special guests' arrivals - we divided into teams, ranging from hospitality and runners to hosts and set-up crew. I was part of the host team, where my job was to escort one of the ladies to the stations (hair, makeup, fashion styling). It was truly heartwarming to see the excitement expressed by these women I hosted as they were transformed head-to-toe with new clothes, hairstyle and makeup. And for most, it was their first time being pampered and discovering a renewed sense of their beauty.
Once makeovers were complete, both guests and volunteers alike couldn’t help but smile. I was so happy to be a part of a day where you could see an outward expression of the true beauty within - and am looking forward to our 8th annual event coming up on February 15.
